  • Bit.ly
    The easiest way to shorten and track links. CLICK HERE  This is a great site to get shorter links that you can track. You can post them directly to twitter or copy and paste them into your web page or blog. Often blog posts have a long address for example this post has the following address

    but can be shortened by using bitly to

    You can even customise the end bit if you can find a key word that has not already been used

    Just discovered a really useful and free on-line tool.

    MyUdutu is easy-to-use online learning authoring software that allows you to build your course very quickly no matter where you are, and no matter who you need to involve.

    I have just tested it, it is easy to learn and use. I extracted the course and placed it in Moodle. It was so simple.

    Each course can be extracted as a self contained SCORM compliant ZIP file; meaning you can put your course on a CD, USB thumbdrive or even host it on your own server or LMS. Extractions are completely free.

    So if you are a school, college or training provider and you have an on-line learning site like Moodle that is Scorm compliant then this resource is perfect. If you deliver NVQs and Apprenticeships like the company I work for (Intec Business Colleges) then start Planning for Success and Get on Course with your on-line learning facility and sign up for this great FREE resource.

  • PowerPoint to DVD converter
    Just found what looks like it could be a really useful tool for anybody who create PowerPoint presentations. Wondershare PPT to DVD converter. There are pro versions that cost, however there is a free version for non-commercial use. It looks to me like the $99 is worth spending.

  • Plagiarism
    If you have set some work for your learners/students that involves researching material in books or the web then you may need to check that they have not copied the work. There are many programmes and on-line resources to check for plagiarism. Most of these cost money. However, there are some on-line resources that are free, here are some I have found:

    Microsoft have some great tools you can add to your windows. The one that has helped me is Image resizer Powertoy

  • Rename your Files
    Rename your Files - A.F.5

    I have been using this great little programme for a couple of years now. I generally use it if I wish to rename a lot of images to better describe what they are. It is very easy to download and install and very easy to use.

    A.F.5 makes it easy to rename many files at the same time. Drag and drop your files from Microsoft® Windows® Explorer to the window of A.F.5, build new filenames and click Rename.

    Just found a really great site. It allows you to publish PDF documents that allows people to navigate them as a page turner. The service is free, however for a monthly fee you can have adverts removed.

  • Snipping Tool
    You can use Snipping Tool to capture a screen shot, or snip, of any object on your screen, and then annotate, save, or share the image. Simply use a mouse or tablet pen to capture any of the following types of snips:

    •Free-form Snip. Draw an irregular line, such as a circle or a triangle, around an object.

    •Rectangular Snip. Draw a precise line by dragging the cursor around an object to form a rectangle.

    •Window Snip. Select a window, such as a browser window or dialog box, that you want to capture.

    •Full-screen Snip. Capture the entire screen when you select this type of snip.

    This tool comes installed with Window Vista and Window 7, although it is a free download from Microsoft if you need to use it on earlier versions of Windows

    doPDF is a free PDF converter for both personal and commercial use. Using doPDF you can create PDF files by selecting the "Print" command from virtually any application. With one click you can convert your Microsoft Excel, Word or PowerPoint documents or your emails and favorite web sites to PDF files.

    I found this very useful when I need to create a file with a selection of pages from a large document. You simply open the PDF document then print to doPDF selecting the range of pages e.g. 115-122
